A field trip is an excellent way to move the classroom into the wider world. There are so many learning experiences that can take place outside of the traditional classroom setting, and conducting a field trip can be a fun and informative way to administer curriculum materials. What is the secret to a great experience? We have a couple of easy suggestions that will help!
- Planning is a critical element. The key is in the details. Research your destination so that you can create an itinerary that is full of educational components and fun things too. With detailed planning, you can ensure that your trip will be an enjoyable learning experience for you and your students.
- Choose your chaperones wisely. You can’t be everywhere. All field trips require reliable chaperones. Ask for volunteers at least one month in advance. Have one or two chaperones in place as a back-up in case of emergency. Be sure to educate chaperones about all their duties and expectations, no matter how logical or common sense it may seem.
- Get help. You can’t manage all the details yourself. Tour operators that specialize in student travel are a great resource. Remember, careful planning will create a more rewarding experience for everyone!
